I was asked to build a desk that would serve as a work space for craft work and look good in the home.
So my thoughts were a desk with a many drawers. Smaller drawers at the top and a variety of sizes below. Also, we decided to indent the top opening for closer closer access to tools and supplies.
First step was to build the carcasses for the drawers. Hardwood runners were inset into the plywood sides for the drawers. Poplar hardwood was veneered to the case fronts to hide the ply.
Since cost was also a consideration, we selected a quality Birch plywood for the front rails and stiles. To hide the ply edges we used a birch veneer. Poplar hardwood was used for drawers, legs, etc.
